Victory English,
Some memories remain with Tamar. School days are the most unique of them. I do not remember all the days of my school but the day I went to school for the first time, I still remember that day. Not only the school, the first day of tuition also holds a special place for me. Tuition class was not too short for me. The thing is about 40 years old. Today, sending girls to school, teaching them is considered compulsory in every section, but in my school time, girls used to be untouchable. The reason is tight money or tight thinking. This day is also special for me because my father, my Saroj Madam and Peepal tree are still fresh in my memory. My family from Pakistan and Punjab had come to New Delhi. People forbade father to not send the girl to school. Even close relatives pressed on. My father used to think differently. He believed that girls should get higher education like boys. Father did not listen to anyone and I was admitted to a government school in Kishanganj, Delhi.
The first Madam of my first school who taught us for five years was also special. The name was Saroj Madam. She also used to beat for study, encouraged her for help and motivated her to move on. Even today, Saroj Madam is remembered. The first day my eyes were red with tears. They called me and kept me on the lap all day. Did not go to school after taking admission. If the father says, I will not say, Madam kills there. My parents would accept my lies and I would have avoided going to school. But this process lasted only two or four days. The mother was happy that the girl would not read, but her father was very angry.
After a few days she said that I will leave you school, talk to the teacher and stay in class. My na ।ve heart was happy that they would go along. But I was lying when Saroj Madam came home. He said that the baby did not come to school so I have come to pick him up. After that, Dad gave me admission in a tuition school under the People's tree near the house. He wanted the girl to get a better education. In that era, not everyone could think of the parents' thinking and efforts to study. Later, I obtained MA and BAd degrees from them.
