How Long Can a Dog
Live Without Food?
Any dog who can go for two or more days without food and no
motivation to eat is implying that something is wrong and that only a
veterinarian can help diagnose the problem. Generally, the dog can go without
food for three to five days, depending on the breed and the environment.
How Much Can Your Dog Eat during a day
Dogs also have a unique metabolic rate as Humans. The amount
of energy needed per day varies. Some dogs can go all day without food, but can
swallow a food here and there. In many
cases, a dog who is not sick can not afford a day without food. On any given
day, a dog needs a mixture of wet and dry food to get all the nutrients it
needs.

A healthy dog can live without food for three or five days
in all conditions. This assumption provides for puppies, the elderly and the
unhealthy. However, age-related conditions (in the case of puppies and sick
dogs) may not last the entirety of a healthy dog.
If you suspect that your appetite has diminished, if you
refuse to eat dogs, seek medical attention immediately. Your dog may be
suffering from some illness. Do not be surprised that some dogs are not in the
mood for eating (due to age) when they are ready to die.

The three stages of a dog that does
not eat
Pet lovers cannot see a hungry dog, and this explains why
hunger is a miserable existence. When a dog goes hungry, these three stages can
affect the dog's appearance and behavior.
The first stage
This stage occurs within the first 24 hours and does not
show a drastic change in the dog. Internally, glycogen begins to decay. In this
case, the blood sugar should be normal to keep the dog's metabolism healthy.
The Second stage
As the dog’s glycogen storage begins to diminish, the body
begins to search for other sources of energy (gluconeogenesis) in the body. The
dog is becoming unhealthy and unstable with very little energy and keeps it
alive. If you do not yet know what your pet is suffering from, take your dog to
the veterinarian as this will result in death.
The Third stage
In this case, the dog has begun to convert the remaining fat
into energy, and the effects of a starving dog can now be seen. The liver also
releases ketones into the blood as a form of energy. Since the dog has no other
external source of energy (food), the dog will eventually die if it is not
provided with medical care.
Finally
We all know that all life takes energy from what they
consume. If you want your dog to be safe and do all of its day-to-day
activities, feed it. Even when they are sleeping, energy is consumed because
the energy must be active to keep the dog alive. As a rule of thumb, never try
to keep your dog free for long periods of time, because the longer you delay
them, the greater the risk that your dog will starve.
In any case, you may find that your pet is not interested in
what you are eating or what you are offering. This behavior may indicate
several underlying problems. Do your dogs a favor, see a veterinarian and ask
for advice. Helping your pet in advance will make you happy and satisfied.
There is no need to count dates only for things that are bad for your pet. The
dog may not show any signs of serious condition if it is not reasonable to wait
two days.
