Not only raw but also processed milk of big brands do not meet the standards of quality and safety. This was stated in a study by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). FSSAI is the largest regulator of food quality in the country.

Even more serious than milk adulteration is its contamination
Releasing the report of the study on Friday, FSSAI CEO Pawan Agarwal said that there is a problem of adulteration in milk, but the more serious issue is that of milk pollution. Regulatory studies said that substances like aflatoxin-M1, antibiotics and pesticides have been found in milk and they have been found in processed milk.

Instruction to set up a testing and inspection system by January 2020
He said that the regulator has directed the organized dairy industry to strictly adhere to the quality standards. The regulator also directed to set up a testing and inspection system in the entire value chain by January 1, 2020. In the study 6,432 samples of milk were collected. Between May and October 2018, these samples were collected from 1,103 small and large cities in all states and union territories. These samples were taken from both organized and unorganized sectors.
